We are pleased to announce the “Archives, Libraries, and Digital Memory” Devroom at FOSDEM 2027!
This announcement is also available on our site.
This Devroom will focus on the radical notion of preserving information and digital resources for the public good, with the intent of enabling access to source code, software, research, and other valued cultural works, into the future.
Are YOU interested in archiving, libraries, the history of computing, and enabling future access to source code, software artifacts, research, and other digital cultural works?
Do you want something to do on the afternoon of Saturday 30 January, 2027?
If the answer is “YES!”, this Devroom is for you, and perhaps your colleagues and friends too.
Pass it on!
What is FOSDEM?
FOSDEM is a conference about Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) and other related projects and initiatives. It is Europe’s biggest and best meetup of FOSS enthusiasts. In 2027, it will be held on the weekend of Saturday 30 and Sunday 31 January in Brussels, Belgium, at the ULB Solbosch campus.
There is NO admission cost! How’s that for a bargain?
What is this “Devroom” you speak of?
Devrooms are topical tracks run as part of the larger FOSDEM event, you can think of them as mini conferences inside of a big one.
We are organizing the Devroom for the coolest topic: “Archives, Libraries, and Digital Memory”, on the afternoon of Saturday 30 January, 2027.
We’d love to see you there.
Will there be a talk about $topic?
We are searching for talks and things to pack into our schedule. That could be you and your pet subject!
If you’re excited about this Devroom and want it to have a particular talk, this is your call to submit that talk.
Talks must be submitted through the conference’s pretalx page. When submitting your proposal, select us from the “Track” dropdown field.
We are looking for:
- Participants for a panel. It will be about:
- Managing Infrastructure for Archives and Libraries
- 30 minute talks (including question time)
- 7 minute lightning talks (probably no question time)
Please indicate in the “Submission Notes” which of the above you are submitting.
If you have something a bit off-script, we’re open to hearing about it, providing we have enough time and forewarning to accommodate it.
Everyone belongs in this Devroom. We encourage submissions from those with diverse perspectives.
Applicable CoCs can be found on our event website.
Make this the Devroom you wish to see in the world!
